At a glance

  • One office, in Valencia: central Palmdale is about 38 miles away and central Lancaster about 46, mostly on SR-14. You can get quotes, sign and receive ID cards without leaving home.
  • California car rates must give the most weight to your driving record, then annual mileage, then years licensed, so a long commute on the 14 counts for more than your ZIP code.
  • The San Andreas Fault runs through the south end of Palmdale, and a standard homeowners policy does not cover earthquake shaking.
  • The 2020 Lake Fire burned 31,089 acres near Lake Hughes, and foothill homes get a closer look from underwriters than homes on the valley floor.
  • We work with 30 insurance companies, including Mercury Insurance, Travelers, Bristol West, Steadily, Obie and NEXT, and quote the ones that fit your car, home, rental or business.

How do we serve Palmdale and Lancaster from Valencia?

Short answer

By phone, email and e-signature. Our only office is at 25060 Avenue Stanford in Valencia, and nothing in the quote, signing or service process requires an Antelope Valley client to come in.

What do Antelope Valley drivers need from a car policy?

Short answer

Liability limits above the state minimum, uninsured motorist coverage, and comprehensive for glass and wind damage. Mileage matters too, because annual miles driven is the second most important factor in a California auto rate.

California's legal minimum (30/60/15) is a floor, not a recommendation. A crash at freeway speed can run past those limits fast, and anything above them can come back to you personally.

  • Liability: pays for injuries and damage you cause to other people.
  • Uninsured motorist: pays for your own injuries when the at-fault driver has no insurance or not enough.
  • Comprehensive: pays for a cracked windshield, wind-blown debris, theft or vandalism, minus your deductible.
  • Collision: pays to repair your car after a crash, no matter who caused it.

Two local details shape a good Antelope Valley policy: the SR-14 commute through Soledad Canyon piles up miles, and high desert wind and heat are hard on glass. Our page on car insurance in Palmdale and Lancaster covers both, and the guide to California's minimum car insurance explains the limits.

What should Palmdale and Lancaster homeowners plan for?

Short answer

Earthquake, wildfire near the foothills, wind and winter nights below freezing. A standard homeowners policy usually covers fire, wind and sudden pipe bursts, but earthquake damage needs its own policy.

The San Andreas runs through town

The fault zone crosses the Antelope Valley Freeway near the Avenue S exit, and Lake Palmdale sits in a basin formed by its past movement. Homeowners policies exclude shaking damage, so the way to insure it is a separate earthquake insurance policy.

Fire along the foothill edge

Palmdale's General Plan points to the wildland edge on the city's southwest and west sides, and Leona Valley, Lake Hughes, Acton and Agua Dulce sit right in the brush. Underwriters look closely at those addresses. If the regular market says no, our California FAIR Plan guide explains the fallback.

Wind, heat and freezing nights

Lancaster's normal December low is 29.7 degrees and its normal July high is 97.6 (NOAA, 1991 to 2020). Roofs, fences and water pipes take the strain. Wind damage and sudden bursts are normally covered, while wear and slow leaks are not. Our Palmdale home insurance page goes deeper.

Which insurance companies can we quote in the Antelope Valley?

Short answer

We work with 30 insurance companies, among them Mercury Insurance, Travelers, Bristol West, Steadily, Obie and NEXT. Each carrier decides through its own underwriting whether to accept a driver or a property, so we quote more than one.

Do you insure rental houses and renters in the Antelope Valley?

Short answer

Yes. Owners renting out a house need a landlord policy, which we quote through carriers such as Steadily and Obie, and tenants can get renters insurance for their belongings and liability.

A homeowners policy is written for a house the owner lives in. Once tenants move in, switch to a landlord insurance policy that covers the building, your liability as the owner and, on many policies, rent you lose while a covered loss is repaired.

Tenants need their own coverage. The landlord's policy pays for the building, not your furniture or your liability, so renters insurance is what protects you. Condo owners usually need an HO-6 policy instead, explained on our condo insurance page.

Can an Antelope Valley small business get coverage through us?

Short answer

Yes. We quote general liability, business owner's policies, commercial auto and workers' compensation for small businesses and contractors, mostly through NEXT.

Not sure which of these you need? Start with the business insurance overview, then call and we'll sort it out with you.

Which Antelope Valley communities do we serve?

Short answer

Every part of the valley. Our California license covers both cities and all the unincorporated towns around them.

  • Palmdale: Rancho Vista, Anaverde and east Palmdale, plus unincorporated Desert View Highlands, which the city surrounds.
  • Lancaster and the west side: Quartz Hill and Antelope Acres.
  • East of the cities: Littlerock, Pearblossom, Sun Village and Lake Los Angeles.
  • Foothills and canyons: Leona Valley, Lake Hughes, Acton and Agua Dulce.

Through both cities, SR-14 also carries the name Aerospace Highway, a fit for a valley with Air Force Plant 42 in northeast Palmdale (home to Lockheed Martin's Skunk Works, Northrop Grumman and Boeing) and Edwards Air Force Base off to the northeast.

Short answers to what people ask us most. Anything else, call and ask Brian or Dolores.

Mon to Fri, 9 AM to 4 PM

Do you have an office in Palmdale or Lancaster?

No. Our only office is in Valencia, in the Santa Clarita Valley, about 38 miles from central Palmdale. Antelope Valley clients do everything by phone, email and e-signature, so there's no reason to make the drive. If you're in Santa Clarita anyway, you're welcome to stop by Monday to Friday between 9 and 4.

I just moved to the Antelope Valley. What should I change on my insurance?

Start with the garaging address on your car policy, since where a car is kept can affect the price. If your commute changed, update your annual mileage too, because California weighs mileage more heavily than location. Then set up a home or renters policy at the new address. Homebuyers can look up the property on the state's Fire Hazard Severity Zone map (opens in a new tab), which sets building and brush-clearance rules. Insurers don't use that map for rates or underwriting, but they run their own wildfire models, so ask us early how carriers see the address.

Can you insure a rental house in Lancaster if I live somewhere else in California?

Yes. We quote landlord policies through carriers such as Steadily and Obie for houses you rent out, and the whole process runs by email and e-signature, so the owner can live in Santa Clarita, Bakersfield, Ventura or anywhere else in the state. Tell us the address, the year built, the roof's age and whether the house is rented right now. If you also own the home you live in, we can look at both together.

Will I talk to a real person or a call center?

A real person. Iriana Insurance Services is two people, Brian Iriana and Dolores Alvarez, and one of them answers your call or calls you back. During office hours, Monday to Friday from 9 AM to 4 PM, that callback usually comes within the hour. Messages left in the evening or on a weekend get a call the next business morning.

Can I bundle my home and cars if I live in Leona Valley or Acton?

Often, but the house decides it. Foothill homes get a close look from underwriters because of wildfire exposure. If a home and auto carrier such as Mercury or Travelers will write the home, we quote your cars with the same carrier to see whether the bundle lowers the total. If the house ends up on the California FAIR Plan, your cars can still be insured on their own with whichever carrier prices them well.

Do you insure work trucks for Antelope Valley contractors?

Yes. A truck that's titled to your business or used to haul tools and materials usually needs a commercial auto policy rather than a personal one. We quote commercial auto along with general liability and workers' compensation, mostly through NEXT, and we can email certificates of insurance when a general contractor or property manager asks for one.

Are you licensed to sell insurance in Palmdale and Lancaster?

Yes. The agency's California license number is #0D44425 and Brian's personal license is #0G73836, and you can look up either one with the California Department of Insurance. A California license covers every community in the state, from Lake Los Angeles to Quartz Hill. We aren't licensed in any other state, so we only insure California homes, cars and businesses.
