An Independent Insurance Agency for Ventura, CA

Our desk in Valencia sits about 47 miles from Ventura City Hall, out Highway 126 past Fillmore and Santa Paula. We don't keep an office on the coast, and you won't need one. Brian Iriana quotes car, home, rental and small business policies for coastal clients, and he and Dolores Alvarez look after them by phone, email and e-signature, with 30 years of experience behind every comparison.

How does a Valencia agency look after Ventura clients?

Short answer

By phone, email and e-signature. We quote, bind, change and renew coastal policies remotely and help you report and follow up on claims, so there is never a reason to make the drive.

The route itself is simple: Newhall Ranch Road to Highway 126, west past Piru and through Fillmore, then the Santa Paula Freeway to the 101. It runs about 47 miles and takes roughly an hour in light traffic. Your paperwork doesn't have to make the trip.

Most new clients start by sending a photo of their current declarations page (the summary page listing your coverages, limits and deductibles). We ask a few follow-up questions, check the carriers that fit and go over the options with you on a call. You sign on your phone, and the policy documents are emailed to you.

  • New quotes for cars, homes, condos, rentals and small businesses
  • Mid-term changes such as adding a teen driver, swapping a car or updating your mortgage company
  • Renewal reviews when a premium jumps or a non-renewal notice shows up
  • Claim help: how and where to report, plus follow-up with the carrier if things stall

What matters most for car insurance in Ventura?

Short answer

How far you drive, how much liability you carry and whether your cars have comprehensive (other-than-collision) protection. A daily run on the 101 or out Highway 126 adds up, and California insurers must weigh mileage heavily.

The 101 is the city's spine, tying it to Oxnard and Camarillo in one direction and Santa Barbara in the other. Highway 33 climbs to Ojai, and Highway 126 heads east through Santa Paula and Fillmore to Santa Clarita.

Under Proposition 103, California car insurance rates must be based first on your driving record, then on the miles you drive each year, then on how many years you have been driving. Other factors, including where the car is garaged, rank below those three. Accurate mileage up front means a quote that holds up.

Our page on car insurance in Ventura goes further into fog, salt air and wildfire evacuations. If a DUI or a license suspension means the DMV wants an SR-22, read about SR-22 filings in California, and see California car insurance for the statewide basics.

What are the main insurance risks for Ventura homes?

Short answer

Wildfire in the hillsides, flooding near the rivers and the beach, and earthquake risk across the whole city. A homeowners policy usually covers fire, but flood and earthquake each need a separate policy.

The Thomas Fire broke out near Santa Paula on the evening of December 4, 2017, and Santa Ana winds carried it into the hills above the city that same night. Hundreds of homes burned in Ondulando, Clearpoint, Skyline and other hillside streets. In 2025 the Ventura Fire Department released updated fire hazard severity zone maps for public review, and much of the mapped hazard area is in those same hills.

Water is the other risk. The Santa Clara River runs along the city's southern edge, and the Ventura River runs down the west side, where a county levee protects the city. FEMA found in 2008 that the levee did not fully meet federal certification standards, and the county has been working on plans to repair it. Some blocks near the beach and the pier fall in FEMA's coastal flood zones.

Homeowners policies exclude flood and earthquake. Flood coverage comes from the National Flood Insurance Program or a private flood insurer, and FEMA's flood insurance page (opens in a new tab) notes that an NFIP policy typically has a 30-day wait before it takes effect. Earthquake coverage is its own policy too; see our earthquake insurance page.

For rebuild coverage in detail, read home insurance in Ventura. If a carrier has already declined or dropped your home, our California FAIR Plan guide explains the last-resort option and the policy that usually goes with it.

Neighborhood by neighborhood: what we ask about

The city runs from the Ventura River to the Santa Clara River, with foothills along its north side and the Pacific on the other. The right questions change with the address.

Do Ventura renters, condo owners and landlords need different policies?

Short answer

Yes. Renters need a renters policy, condo owners need an HO-6 policy that fills the gaps in the association's master policy, and landlords need a landlord (dwelling) policy instead of a standard homeowners form.

Plenty of households here rent. Renters insurance covers your belongings and your personal liability, and many landlords ask tenants to carry it. If a fire or a burst pipe forces you out, it can also pay for temporary housing.

Condo and townhome owners should read the HOA's master policy before buying their own coverage. Our condo insurance page explains how an HO-6 can cover interior walls, upgrades, belongings and your share of an association assessment.

If you own a rental house or a duplex, we can quote landlord coverage through carriers such as Steadily and Obie. Tell us if you rent by the night, because many landlord policies are written for long-term tenants. The details are on our landlord insurance page.

Can you insure a small business in Ventura?

Short answer

Yes, for California businesses that fit our carriers' guidelines. We can quote general liability, business owner's policies, commercial auto, workers' compensation and contractor coverage, often through NEXT.

A shop on Main Street, a restaurant at the harbor and a framing crew rebuilding hillside homes all need different coverage. A small retailer may fit a business owner's policy, while a crew with employees needs general liability and workers' compensation.

Start with our business insurance overview, or go straight to contractor insurance if you hold a CSLB license. Acceptance depends on the type of work and each carrier's underwriting.

Which insurance companies can we quote in Ventura?

Short answer

We work with 30 insurance companies, including Mercury Insurance, Travelers, Bristol West, Steadily, Obie and NEXT, and which ones fit depends on what you need to insure. Each carrier makes its own underwriting decision, so we usually check more than one.

Questions we hear a lot

Insurance in Ventura: common questions

Short answers to what people ask us most. Anything else, call and ask Brian or Dolores.

Still have a question?

Talk to a licensed agent at the Valencia office.

(818) 909-7486

Mon to Fri, 9 AM to 4 PM

Do you have an office in Ventura?

No. Our only office is at 25060 Avenue Stanford, Suite 240, in Valencia, about an hour east of Ventura on Highway 126. Everything from the first quote to a mid-term change happens by phone, email and e-signature, so you never need to visit. If you are in the Santa Clarita Valley anyway and want to stop in, call first so we can have your file ready.

Can you help if my Ventura home was non-renewed?

Yes. Send us the non-renewal notice and your current declarations page. We check whether a carrier we work with, such as Mercury or Travelers, will write the home, and if no standard carrier will, we explain the California FAIR Plan paired with a difference-in-conditions policy that adds what the FAIR Plan leaves out. Our guide to a home insurance non-renewal in California explains your options and timing.

Can you insure a rental property near the beach?

For long-term rentals, usually yes. We can quote landlord coverage through carriers such as Steadily and Obie for a house or small multi-unit building rented to tenants by the month or year. Nightly or weekly vacation rentals are a different risk that many landlord policies are not written for, so tell us exactly how the property is rented. If it sits in a FEMA flood zone, we will also talk about a separate flood policy.

How fast will someone call me back?

During business hours, Monday to Friday from 9 to 4, we usually return calls and quote requests within the hour. Anything that comes in after 4 or over the weekend gets a call the next business morning. A quote starts with one conversation. Checking several carriers can take a little longer, and Dolores will tell you up front if a carrier needs more information.

Can I bundle car and home insurance as a Ventura homeowner?

Usually, yes. When one carrier writes both your house and your cars, you have one company to call. Whether the bundle beats separate policies depends on the quotes, so we price it both ways and show you. See Ventura car insurance and Ventura home insurance for the details of each.

Are you licensed to sell insurance in Ventura County?

Yes. Iriana Insurance Services, Inc. holds California license #0D44425, and Brian Iriana is licensed under #0G73836. Our licenses cover all of California, including Ventura County. We are licensed in California only, so we can't insure drivers, homes or businesses based in another state.
