Where can you get SR-22 insurance in Santa Clarita?
Short answer
From a licensed agent or insurer that writes SR-22 policies. Ours is in Valencia, where you can sit down with Brian, or you can handle everything by phone and e-signature.
You'll find us at 25060 Avenue Stanford, in the Valencia Industrial Center. If you'd rather hand a DMV notice to a person than read it aloud to a call center, that's what the office is for. We work with drivers in Valencia, Saugus, Newhall, Canyon Country, Stevenson Ranch and Castaic.
Call ahead if you can. During office hours one of us usually picks up or calls back within the hour, and we can have quotes started before you walk in.
Do you need to visit the Newhall DMV office for an SR-22?
Short answer
Not to turn in the SR-22, because the carrier sends it to the DMV electronically. You may still need an in-person DMV visit for other steps, such as applying for a restricted license after a DUI.
The Newhall DMV field office is at 24427 Newhall Avenue. DMV handouts say to visit an office to apply for a restricted license, with an appointment recommended, and both restricted license options after a first DUI list proof of insurance (SR 22) among the requirements. Check current hours on the DMV's Newhall field office page (opens in a new tab) before you go.
Before an appointment like that, make sure the SR-22 has actually gone out. We'll confirm with the carrier that it was transmitted and send you a copy when the carrier provides one.
Hearing or court date?
DMV hearings and court cases run separately from the insurance, and we can't advise on them; an attorney or the DMV can. What we can do is have the policy and the SR-22 ready by the date you need them.
How fast can a Santa Clarita driver get an SR-22 filed?
Short answer
Often the same day the policy is issued and paid, when the carrier allows it. Give the DMV's system a little time to catch up before an appointment.
The speed comes from the carrier, not from the DMV counter. Once you've signed and made the first payment, the carrier transmits the certificate. Bristol West is usually the first carrier we check, and if your record allows, we look at the other carriers we work with as well.
Missing details slow things down: a license number, the DMV notice, a vehicle identification number. Email us photos of those before you call and we can move faster.
Getting back on the road in the Santa Clarita Valley
I-5 and the 14 meet at the Newhall Pass, on the edge of the valley between Santa Clarita and Los Angeles. If you work in the San Fernando Valley or farther south, that interchange is your commute, and there's no practical way around needing a license for it.
After a first DUI, the DMV's restricted license options include one that lets you drive anywhere in a car fitted with an ignition interlock device, and one limited to driving to, from and during work and to your DUI program. Which one fits is between you, the DMV and your attorney. Our part is making sure the insurance and the SR-22 are in place.
If you drive a work truck or a company car, tell us. A personal SR-22 policy may not cover vehicles used for business, and your employer's insurer has its own rules. Owners of local businesses can read about commercial auto on our business insurance in Santa Clarita page.
If the SR-22 traces back to a crash, our checklist for after a car accident in California covers the SR 1 report the DMV expects within 10 days.
What does SR-22 insurance cost in Santa Clarita?
Short answer
There's no single price. The violation behind the SR-22 and the rest of your driving record matter most; where the car is garaged is a smaller factor under California law.
California ranks your driving record, annual mileage and years of experience ahead of every other rating factor. Location enters as an optional factor built on claim patterns by ZIP code, so living in Valencia rather than Canyon Country is unlikely to matter as much as a recent DUI. A quote with your real record is the only honest answer.

What happens when your three years are up?
Short answer
Confirm the end date with the DMV, then shop the policy again. A clean three years can open the door to more carriers.
We'll recheck standard carriers for your car insurance in Santa Clarita, and if you own a home here, we'll price it alongside the cars. Our home insurance page for the valley covers what local homeowners are dealing with on wildfire and non-renewals.

Is there an SR-22 office in Santa Clarita?
No, and there isn't a special SR-22 office anywhere. The SR-22 comes from your insurance company, which files it with the DMV electronically. Locally, you can buy the policy through an agency like ours in Valencia, and the Newhall DMV field office at 24427 Newhall Avenue handles in-person DMV business such as license applications.
Can I come to your Valencia office to sign the SR-22 paperwork?
Yes. We're at 25060 Avenue Stanford, Suite 240, Monday to Friday from 9 to 4. Call first so we can run quotes before you arrive, and bring your driver license, your DMV notice and your vehicle information. If you'd rather not come in, e-signature works just as well, and the carrier files the SR-22 either way.
Do you write SR-22 policies in Canyon Country, Saugus and Castaic?
Yes. We write SR-22 policies for drivers all over the valley, including Valencia, Saugus, Newhall, Canyon Country, Stevenson Ranch and Castaic, and the DMV rules are the same in each. Farther up the 14, we also work with drivers in the Antelope Valley; see car insurance in Palmdale and Lancaster.
I moved here from another California city. Does my SR-22 change?
The requirement doesn't change when you move within California. Update your address with your insurer and the DMV, and ask the insurer to re-rate the policy for the new garaging address, since location is one of the rating factors. If you want a second quote, we're happy to run one, but keep the old policy until the new SR-22 is on file.
What should I do if my SR-22 policy gets a cancellation notice?
Call us the day it arrives. For nonpayment, a California insurer must give 10 days' written notice after the due date before the cancellation takes effect, so there's usually time to fix it. If the policy does cancel, the carrier reports it and the DMV can suspend your license until a new SR-22 is filed, so don't wait for the last day.
Can I get a non-owner SR-22 if I don't have a car?
Yes. If no car is registered to you, an operator's policy (often called a non-owner policy) can carry the SR-22 and cover you when you drive cars you don't own. It doesn't cover a car you own, so if you buy one later, we'll set up an owner's policy and have its SR-22 filed before the old policy ends.
Do you charge for an SR-22 quote?
No. Quotes are free and there's no obligation to buy. If a carrier charges a fee to file the SR-22, we'll point it out before you buy so the total cost is clear. You'll also see the payment schedule up front, which matters on an SR-22 policy because a missed payment can cancel it.
